Opportunities for growth generated over the years.
Battery Box -(So many things happened with this build. I am listing each thing and any issues or comments associated with it. If you want to see the video I based it on Ham Radio Tube (K8MRD)
Battery – Size 24 mini from TEMU. Humsienk is the manufacturer, cost $129. It charged well, having no voltage issues so far.
Box – Harbor Freight 3800 $39.95, Cuts and drills without issue
Connectors – I did not realize that heat shrink connectors must be crimped and heated to complete the bond. Wasted a box when they all pulled apart.
Crimper – DO NOT skimp on the crimper. Get the correct crimper for the job. I Tried what I thought was the best way to do the crimping. Failing miserably, wasting 3 hours I went to Amazon and got a tool with replaceable jaws. We’ll see how it goes but I think it will be a vast improvement.
Wire – A rabbit hole – As K8MRD (Mike) puts it in his video he uses 10awg wire. Basically according to the charts and calculators on the web there is no standard for wire size vs AMPs. Please REMEMBER AMPS are Cumulative so you want to prepare for the greatest load from the battery. A few Links for you to check out:
PowerWerx Recommended Gauge Size Calculator – The Main one I used. Amperage and Wire Gauge Chart – great explanation of why we use the different sizes.
Anderson Power Poles – The standard for all DC electrical connections. Make sure you have the correct tool for crimping these. And remember even though you can print your own or buy the Chinese knock-offs, the best way to go is with the original, they work every time.
